Maplewood / Judge says city firing illegal
A Ramsey County judge ruled Friday that Maplewood city officials illegally fired one of their employees because she attempted to form a union and made whistleblowing allegations protected under state law.

Some Maplewood officials are still in denial. The mayor and council members need to understand ethics and conflict of interest.
We are paying a police officer for the rest of his life? Mr. Copeland was hired with a questionable background, lack of qualifications and was found not credible. Sounds like Maplewood residents will be paying high insurance rates to the League of MN Cities for some peoples poor decisions. I am not for big government, but Maplewood should add a couple of council members to get away from the partisianship. | |
Soes this mean that every political decision made by a majority vote is illegal because it was made by a coalition of people in cahoots? Like when all members of a party, whether Dem or GOP, are expected to vote along party lines or face consequences. Seems like everybody is a victim of something whenever things don't go their way. Bend to my will or I will sue. You can't fire because I am a woman, a minority, handicapped, late, a troublemaker, a liar and thief. Somewhere there is a law or ACLU to protect me. I am a victim. I'm not sure what I'm a victim of but my lawyer will know. | |
Do you think the fact that the City of Maplewood arrested the Judges' sister 2 weeks ago has any impact on the fact that the judge ruled 60 days early, and against the city??

Bill Good post! Mr. Copeland did not have the skills needed to run Maplewood as it should be run. The politics that were employed by the mayor and Mr. Copeland is going to hurt Maplewood for years to come. The police officer you speak of, was this the former assistant chief that Copeland had fired? This assistant chief is now a highly respected chief of police in another city. What Copeland and the mayor did to this good man is a shame. All this police officer did was his job. He investigated Copeland and Copeland did not like was discovered. So Copeland fired the messenger of his own bad news. This police officer was not the only good city official that was attacked by Copeland and the mayor. The need for union representation in Maplewood was and is needed. Hopefully the union will not only just defend any future contract, but will really advocate for the union's members. It is also a shame that the city has to pay Copeland until June for the mess he left the city. Just so Copeland does not sue (again) I am not an employee of the city of Maplewood and do not fall under the terms of his employment contract. Longrie should resign immediately and take Hjelle and her minion Bob Zick with her! They have damaged Maplewood, destroyed a professional staff, hurt individuals and made themselves a laughingstock. They should be embarrassed for their childish behavior. | |

Also, I'm pretty sure you were there and voted for what was mentioned in the story. I don't recall you abstaining. So who is lying Eric? And this one takes the cake. How selfish of the mayor. She lead the city into this mess and all she can think of is herself? Did you even read the oath of office? You need to study the concept of I/Me vs/ We/Us.
